Alphonse Capone was born in January 1899, in Brooklyn. Young Al was expelled from school, and became a close friend to Johnny Torrio. Torrio gained control of different businesses and trades in Brooklyn. The businesses would pay a commission to Torrio, and would be granted a monopoly, which allowed them to raise their prices. Anyone who challanged this monoply would get their legs blown off, their office destroyed, or even condemned by the city. In 1920, Torrio moved to Chicago, Shortly after his move Torrio summoned old friend Capone to come to Chicago and take over one of his brothels. However, in 1925 Torrio was shot, and sentenced to nine months in prison for operating a brewery. Torrio turned his operations over to Al Capone.
